Pen-Cal was founded in 1959 by Bob Penland. Bob graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a business degree. After graduating, he attended Purdue University where he earned a degree in pension plan design and education. Bob quickly realized that his clients needed a more comprehensive service than what was currently being provided by the larger insurance company based administrative platform. Pen-Cal was founded with the goal to bring all facets of retirement plan consulting and administration under one roof. In order to do this, he invested a great deal of resources to technology and administrative staff.
