The Peralta Community College District is a public higher education system based in Oakland, California, founded in 1964. It comprises Berkeley City College, College of Alameda, Laney College, and Merritt College, serving a diverse, multicultural student community. The district provides accessible, high-quality educational programs, including two-year degrees, certificates, and university transfer pathways to more than 35,000 students. It is governed by a seven-member board of trustees elected from trustee areas covering Alameda, Albany, Berkeley, Emeryville, Oakland, and Piedmont. The district maintains media operations through Peralta TV and KGPC-LP public radio, contributing to its community presence beyond the classroom. In 2025, it launched a district-wide class search tool across all four campuses to streamline course access.
