Philmont Scout Ranch operates as Scouting's largest national high-adventure base, offering a broad program of wilderness experiences and training opportunities. The site includes 36 staffed camps and 55 trail camps along hundreds of miles of rugged high-country trails in Cimarron, New Mexico. It supports summer activity and additional Autumn and Winter Adventure programs, with an emphasis on low-impact camping to preserve the surrounding wilderness. Its primary participants are Scouts, Venturers, and leaders who engage in camping, training, and work programs at Philmont. Founded in 1938 as Philturn Rocky Mountain Scout Camp, the ranch was recognized in 2023 as one of four National High Adventure Bases operated by the Boy Scouts of America.
