The Piaggio Group is a motor vehicle manufacturer based in Pontedera, Tuscany, Italy. It was established in 1884 by Rinaldo Piaggio and has been controlled by Immsi S.p.A. since 2003. The group's product range includes scooters, mopeds and motorcycles under the Piaggio, Vespa, Gilera, Aprilia, Moto Guzzi, Derbi and Scarabeo brands, and it also operates in the three- and four-wheel light transport sector. It maintains production plants in Pontedera, Noale, Scorzè and Mandello del Lario in Italy; Baramati in India; and Vinh Phuc in Vietnam, with a China joint venture. Specific plant roles include Pontedera producing Piaggio, Vespa and Gilera two-wheelers, light transport vehicles for the European market, and engines for scooters and motorcycles; Noale serving as a technical development centre for motorcycles and the base of Aprilia Racing; Scorzè producing Aprilia and Scarabeo two-wheelers; Mandello del Lario producing Moto Guzzi vehicles and engines; Baramati producing three- and four-wheel light transport vehicles and diesel and turbodiesel engines for the group's commercial vehicles, and since 2012 Vespa scooters in the Indian market; and Vinh Phuc producing Vespa and Piaggio scooters for the local and ASEAN markets. The group employs between 1,001 and 5,000 people.
