Piast Institute is a national research center focused on Polish and Polish American affairs. Based in Hamtramck, Michigan, it operates as a Census Information Center, one of 48 across the United States and one of two in Michigan. It organizes conferences, seminars, data publications, public programs, lectures, and exhibits to provide accurate information about Poland and Polish Americans, and it emphasizes the role of ethnicity in American life. As a Census Information Center, it functions as a data resource to help Polish, Polish American, and other community groups develop policy papers and studies spanning historical, cultural, political, economic, social, and demographic topics, supported by a small to mid-sized staff. Founded in 2003 by Dr. Thaddeus Radzilowski and Mrs. Virginia Skrzyniarz, with Mrs. Skrzyniarz appointed CEO in 2018, the institute also pursues efforts to counter inaccurate information about Poland and to celebrate Polish contributions to American and world culture.
