planqc develops quantum computing hardware that uses neutral-atom qubits stored in individual atoms and arranged into scalable arrays. The qubits are controlled with precisely tuned laser pulses to drive computations. The company aims to scale the systems to thousands of qubits, a level seen as essential for achieving industry-relevant quantum capability. Based in Garching, Bavaria, planqc is the first startup to emerge from Munich Quantum Valley, a regional ecosystem linking research institutes with industry. It collaborates with academic institutions and automotive and semiconductor partners to explore real-world use cases, including work with Saarland University, BMW, and Infineon. In March 2026, planqc announced partnerships with Infineon Technologies and BMW, along with Saarland University, to pursue hybrid quantum-classical computing for industrial optimization.
