PlantTape Inc. develops an automated transplanting system for hemp, tomatoes, and vegetables, aimed at increasing crop yields, improving efficiency, and reducing per-acre costs for growers in the United States and globally. Seeds are sown onto PlantTape material, which is cut into strips, folded, and loaded into trays that hold 840 seeds each, enabling a dense seedling population. The sown tape is palletized, wrapped, and shipped to nurseries for germination, and its dry tape environment allows growers to delay germination to align with weather or transplant timing. Transplants are moved from nurseries to fields by an automated transplanter that pulls the tape and places each seedling with specific line spacing, plant spacing, and depth, using a three-point planter adjustable to different bed configurations. The company is headquartered in Hollister, California, and serves customers around the world. In January 2025, PlantTape announced the commercial launch of its Automated Tomato Transplanter.
