PlayMakers Laboratory is a Chicago-based performing arts organization in the Midwest that operates as an arts education theater ensemble serving elementary schools, particularly third through fifth graders in underserved communities. The program creates an alternative learning environment where children can share their voices and celebrate imagination through storytelling. It blends in-school creative writing workshops with performances of the students' stories and also presents public shows to involve the wider community; three interconnected programming tracks support this mission, with the in-school residency regarded as the core activity.

With more than 25 years of activity in Chicago's arts education landscape, the organization sits within the performing arts and arts education space, turning student-written narratives into staged performances by professional actors. Its objectives include teaching writing fundamentals, fostering a safe learning environment, and boosting self-esteem while delivering thoughtful, accessible theater.
