PORAC was established in 1953 as a professional alliance of local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies. It counts more than 80,000 public safety members and supports more than 956 associations, positioning PORAC as the largest law enforcement organization in California and the largest statewide association in the nation. Headquartered in Sacramento, California, PORAC focuses on identifying public safety needs and delivering programs to address evolving community security challenges. In 2023, PORAC launched The ABC's of POWER: Peace Officer Wellness, Ethics and Resilience, a training course that addresses the moral and wellness aspects of policing and guides officers in developing a personal wellness plan.
