Port of Bellingham is a countywide independent special-purpose government headquartered in Bellingham, Washington. Created by a countywide vote in 1920, it is governed by three nonpartisan elected commissioners. It operates as a multi‑purpose agency with facilities in Bellingham, Blaine, and Sumas, managing transportation terminals, two major marinas, and a deep‑draft marine terminal, while overseeing about 1,600 acres of public land with roughly 250 local business tenants and supporting economic development throughout Whatcom County. It includes the Bellingham International Airport, serving around 500,000 passengers annually with nonstop routes provided by Alaska Airlines, Allegiant, and Horizon, along with marinas that host about 2,000 moored boats and the Bellingham Cruise Terminal for Alaska State Ferry, private ferries, and charter vessels, plus the Fairhaven Transportation Station for Amtrak and Greyhound. A recent development is a June 2026 partnership with Western Solar Inc. to bring a community solar project to Fisherman’s Pavilion on the waterfront.
