The PPECB is an independent provider of quality certification and cold chain management for South African producers and exporters of perishable foods. Established in 1926, it helps bolster the credibility of the South African export certificate and supports the global competitiveness of the country's perishable-product sectors. Across the country, PPECB inspectors perform end-point inspections on more than 200 product types at over 1,500 locations, and products cleared for export bear a certificate marking. The organization also oversees cold chain management to ensure proper handling, storage, and transport under specified temperatures, while prioritizing food safety, with a laboratory that conducts analyses such as mycotoxins, fats, dairy, and pesticide residues. The PPECB is based in South Africa and serves its producers and exporters within the wholesale import and export sector, aiming to uphold quality and safety across international trade. In 2025, the European Commission recognized PPECB as an approved third country for exports to the European Union under Regulation 543/2011.
