Pragmatic is a film and television literary consultancy with international reach, advising content creators and artists in the scouting, acquisition and development of books/manuscripts, articles, life rights, podcasts, and other literary material for adaptation across a variety of platforms. Our clients and partners include Oscar, Golden Globe, and Emmy Award-nominated producers and filmmakers of commercially successful and culturally significant films and series found on streamers, television networks, and in movie theaters. Pragmatic’s founder and principal, Mac Hawkins, was previously a development executive focusing on book-film adaptations at Paramount Pictures in New York after working in the motion picture, television and book departments of WME in both New York and Los Angeles. He began his career in publishing, first in editorial at HarperCollins/ReganBooks and subsequently at Oxford University Press in editorial and business development. His experience and relationships across both the agenting and development sides of both publishing and film/TV are unique among literary consultants. This background animates the company’s 360-degree engagement with clients to help acquire, develop and adapt content based on books, articles, true stories and other literary material.
