Primary Engineer is a not-for-profit educational organization based in Burnley, Lancashire, founded in 2005 by Susan Scurlock MBE. It works with both primary and secondary pupils and their teachers to connect classroom learning with the world of engineering and technology. The organization collaborates with businesses and industry across the UK to deliver programmes and competitions that enable teachers to run engaging engineering projects and expose students to engineering careers.

Industry professionals contribute to the learning by working with teachers and students to broaden awareness of engineering careers. The organization has been recognized with regional accolades, including the Red Rose Awards for Skills and Training Provider of the Year and Burnley Council’s Chief Executive’s Award for bringing Education and Industry together. In February 2026, Thames Freeport Ltd announced a partnership with Primary Engineer to help young people understand opportunities on their doorstep and to equip teachers with supporting resources.
