PPPL is a U.S. Department of Energy national laboratory administered by Princeton University. It has been a longstanding leader in fusion energy science and engineering and is expanding to include microelectronics, quantum information science, and sustainability science to address national priorities. The lab sits on more than 90 acres on Princeton University's James Forrestal Campus, near the main campus in Princeton, New Jersey. It employs a broad range of professionals—from researchers and engineers to staff in support roles—and emphasizes equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility. Operating in the research services field, PPPL provides science, engineering, technology, and professional services as part of its mission. A recent focus includes developing a digital twin or virtual model of its primary fusion experiment, NSTX-U, and a computational infrastructure called STELLAR-AI to accelerate simulations.
