Progressive Democrats of America is a political organization that operates both within and outside the Democratic Party to advance progressive public policy at national and local levels. Founded in 2004, the organization describes itself as a grassroots political action committee that seeks to shift influence away from corporate interests toward the broad public interest, pursuing an inside/outside strategy with the Congressional Progressive Caucus. It has supported electoral gains in 2006 and 2008 and highlights policy areas such as ending the Iraq War, protecting voter rights and Social Security, pursuing full employment, expanding national health care, and advancing economic justice. The organization is based in Denver, Colorado, and comprises a small-to-mid-sized team focused on party-building from the ground up as well as advocacy within movements for peace and justice. In September 2023, PDA and the Rural Urban Bridge Initiative released the Rural New Deal, a policy platform aimed at fostering rural prosperity and resilience through federal investment in bottom-up solutions. As a participant in the political organizations field, PDA describes its work as rebuilding the Democratic Party and connecting party structures to broader movements to influence policy and power in Washington.
