Project Create is a small nonprofit in Washington, D.C., that supports youth development through arts education designed to be inclusive and multidisciplinary. By providing instruction led by experienced teaching artists and creating opportunities to showcase work publicly, the program aims to strengthen creative skills and confidence. In collaboration with social service organizations serving homeless families, the group works to reach children in DC neighborhoods facing the greatest need, reflecting a 27-year commitment that has touched over 15,000 youngsters. Operating within the broader field of individual and family services, Project Create positions itself as a community arts education organization that links students to their local environment through neighborhood arts and cultural experiences, fostering collaborative and culturally affirming connections. Its after-school programming provides a safe, structured setting that supports positive youth development and helps cultivate critical thinking, communication, and leadership. In 2020, the organization collaborated with the DC Office of the Attorney General to launch Artists v. Hate, Standing Up for Humanity, a youth art program and competition in the District.
