Proportional Technologies, Inc. is a Houston, Texas-based company in the defense and space manufacturing sector, with origins in medical imaging research and disease imaging. Following the 9/11 attacks, the firm developed a patented neutron detection approach that uses boron-coated straw tubes to screen for nuclear threats, focusing on scalable and economical deployment. Since then, PTI has broadened the application of this technology to a range of research and commercial fields, aiming to provide helium-3 detector replacements and enable large-scale production of related products.

Founded in 1991 by Dr. Jeffrey L. Lacy, PTI maintains a relatively small organizational footprint. A notable milestone in its history is being named a finalist for the 2016 R&D 100 awards, signaling external recognition of its research efforts. The company continues to pursue economical manufacturing solutions for helium-3 replacement detectors intended for defense and space applications.
