Panin Bank is a major commercial bank in Indonesia, founded in 1971 and listed on the Jakarta Stock Exchange in 1982 as one of the first banks to go public. The bank maintains a strong capital position with a high capital adequacy ratio and did not require government recapitalization after the 1998 financial crisis. Its shareholders include ANZ Banking Group with 30 percent, Panin Life with 45 percent, and public domestic and international investors. As of December 2007, Panin Bank ranked seventh in total assets and fifth in capital among Indonesian banks, with assets of about Rp 53.5 trillion and a CAR of 21.6 percent. The bank operates a nationwide network of about 350 offices and more than 16,000 ATMs through ALTO and BERSAMA, provides Internet, mobile, and phone banking, and offers internationally usable debit cards issued with MasterCard, Cirrus, and Maestro; its strategy concentrates on retail banking and consumer and commercial services.
