Strong Public Engagement PLIA actively engages with the public through on-site visitor centers, interpretive programs, and online resources, creating multiple touchpoints for educational and recreational outreach to visitors who are interested in natural and cultural heritage.

Partnership-Driven Model Partnering with federal agencies like the BLM and USDA Forest Service allows PLIA to access a wide network of land management sites, presenting opportunities to offer educational content, interpretive services, and retail collaborations across multiple public land locations.

Recreational Infrastructure Managing three campgrounds positions PLIA as a provider of camping and outdoor experiences, which could be expanded through merchandise, educational packages, or sponsored programs aimed at enhancing visitor engagement and revenue.

Revenue Potential With an annual revenue between one and ten million dollars from retail and programming activities, there is scope to develop additional educational and interpretive products, or digital offerings, that can attract new funding sources or increase existing income streams.

Alignment with Conservation PLIA’s focus on promoting natural and cultural heritage aligns with sustainability initiatives, presenting sales opportunities for eco-friendly products, conservation partnerships, and grants related to environmental education and stewardship.

The Public Lands Interpretive Association (PLIA) is a not-for-profit cooperating association working in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) and the USDA Forest Service (Forest Service) in Arizona and New Mexico.

PLIA works to inspire and educate the public about the natural and cultural heritage resources of America’s public lands by providing information, products and services at visitor centers and online. Proceeds from retail sales enable PLIA to support partnership projects with the BLM and Forest Service that enhance the visitor experience and provide opportunities to enjoy recreational opportunities on public lands.

PLIA also operates three campgrounds on the Williams Ranger District of the Kaibab National Forest in Arizona and provides a wide-range of interpretive and educational programming throughout the summer camping season.
