Publons is a Wellington-based platform in the book and periodical publishing sector that helps researchers assemble a verifiable record of their scholarly impact across roles as author, editor, and peer reviewer. The service consolidates publications from major databases and reference managers and provides trusted citation metrics, along with a downloadable summary of a researcher's scholarly footprint. Users can choose to display or hide their h-index, with the platform verifying work and updating profiles over time. Beyond individual researchers, Publons offers tools for publishers to identify and engage peer reviewers, along with data on global peer review behavior and training for early-career researchers. It maintains partnerships with major publishers and institutions, including Springer Nature, Wiley, Sage, Cambridge University Press, The Royal Society, Victoria University of Wellington, and The University of Queensland. In 2023, Publons partnered with ALPSP to develop an automated transfer of peer review data between systems via APIs to support a more transparent peer-review process.
