Qatari Diar, established in 2005 by the Qatar Investment Authority, is a Doha-based real estate developer. The company coordinates Qatar's real estate development priorities and supports the country's growing economy. Its first project, Lusail City, launched in December 2005, is described as the largest single development undertaken in Qatar, with the Lusail Real Estate Development Company established in 2008 to oversee it. In 2009, Qatari Diar established the Qatar Railways Development Company to advance the national railway network. By 2017, the group reported a shared capital of about US$7 billion and more than 39 projects in Qatar and 21 other countries, with a combined value exceeding US$35 billion; the company employs between 1,001 and 5,000 people and is headquartered in Doha, on the Arabian Gulf coast.
