Rainbow City Band is a Seattle-based non-profit organization founded in 1998 that brings together about 75 musicians. The ensemble structures its year into a concert season from fall through mid-spring and a marching season from mid-spring through summer, supported by a core concert band along with strong memberships in Swing Band, Orchestra, Pep Band, and Color Guard. New participants are welcome at all levels, with the minimum requirement of the ability to read music and basic familiarity with their instrument. The group can be contacted via membership@rainbowcityband.com for information. It is a non-audition community band that includes members from across the Puget Sound area, spanning LGBTQ+ individuals as well as straight allies. In addition to musicians, there are non-playing members who support rehearsals and performances, and a color guard that performs in the off-season and leads the band in parades during marching season. The organization aims to develop and sustain musical talent, foster lasting friendships, promote visibility and acceptance of LGBT communities, and provide an enjoyable collaborative experience.
