Randolph Electric Membership Corporation is a member-owned electric utility based in Asheboro, North Carolina. It was founded in 1938 by nine local residents who gathered at a gas station to discuss forming a cooperative to bring electricity to rural areas at affordable prices, with ownership by the people it serves. The cooperative operates across Randolph, Moore, Montgomery, Chatham, and Alamance counties, with more than 4,100 miles of distribution lines and a customer base exceeding 31,000 member-consumers. Its ongoing purpose is to provide reliable power at an affordable cost while upholding the core principle of ownership by those it serves and prudent business practices. In 2025 the cooperative participated in the Pole Top Rescue Competition, reflecting engagement with industry activities. It also earned a Gold Award for Best Social Media Post at the Spotlight on Excellence Awards, highlighting recognition for its communications efforts.
