Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) is a member-owned electric utility delivering power to more than 180,000 connections across portions of 22 Virginia counties. The cooperative was established in 1980 through the consolidation of two regional electric cooperatives and operates from its general office in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. REC maintains a network of over 18,000 miles of power lines that traverses its service area from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. It serves residential, commercial, and industrial customers, including notable facilities such as Kings Dominion Amusement Park and customers such as Equinix, Merillat Industries, General Electric, Axalta, Kraft Foods Group, and Southeastern Container. Its governance is provided by a board of directors who are member-owners elected at the annual meeting to three-year terms.
