Established to provide an effective form of local governance for rural residents while representing municipal interests on regional issues, the district operates under the Local Government Act and related provincial legislation. Its structure includes a board composed of Electoral Area Directors and Municipal Directors, reflecting governance that intersects rural communities and eight municipalities across the region. Based in British Columbia, RDEK serves a diverse mix of urban and rural communities and delivers coordinated services to its constituents. The organization engages in activities such as emergency preparedness, infrastructure projects, and community development, with recent initiatives including projects related to fire hall advisory work, water system maintenance, and regional trail and park amenities. While the district’s specific scope and services span multiple domains, its core function remains the administration of regional services to support residents and local governments within its jurisdiction.
