Rehabilitation International (RI) is a global network focused on improving the quality of life for people with disabilities. Founded in 1922 and based in New York, RI connects member organizations, service providers, governments, academics, researchers and advocates across more than 100 countries to share research, practical experience and best practices in disability inclusion. The organization maintains formal relations with major international bodies, including the United Nations and its agencies, as well as regional entities and universities, situating it within the civic and social sectors as a collaborative platform for advancing accessibility and inclusive education, policy development and practice. RI’s work encompasses exchange of information, development initiatives and initiatives such as capacity-building tools and forums, with a notable historical footprint as the designer of the International Symbol of Access in 1969. In recent activity, RI has engaged with global institutions and events, including participation in UNESCAP, UNESCO, and other multilateral discussions, and has launched online training resources aimed at promoting inclusive education in its ongoing efforts to support persons with disabilities and their communities.
