Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) is a college and museum located in Providence, Rhode Island, founded in 1877. It serves a community of about 2,600 students enrolled in more than 40 full-time bachelor’s and master’s programs. The institution blends studio-based practice with liberal arts study and promotes cross-disciplinary inquiry, guiding students to question as a pathway to creative development. RISD operates as a sizeable nonprofit higher education institution that also encompasses a museum. In 2025, it launched Loop Lab, a pilot program that converts campus waste into raw materials for students to reuse in their projects.
