The Richmond Regional Planning District Commission (RRPDC) is an intergovernmental agency that encourages and facilitates local government cooperation in addressing issues that impact its nine jurisdictional members in Central Virginia. The Commission was created by the region's nine localities under a state statue to “promote the orderly and efficient development of the physical, social and economic elements of the district by planning, and encouraging and assisting localities to plan, for the future.” (Va. Code Ann. § 15.2-4207.)

The RRPDC manages regional transportation planning, provides technical assistance to local governments, and develops geographic information services, including demographic and economic statistics. The 33 voting Commissioners include 22 elected officials, seven planning commission representatives, and four citizen representatives and represent more than 950,000 citizens. The region includes the City of Richmond, the Town of Ashland, and the Counties of Charles City, Chesterfield, Goochland, Hanover, Henrico, New Kent, and Powhatan.
