River Partners is a mid-sized environmental nonprofit based in Chico, California, focused on restoring river landscapes across the state. Over more than 25 years it has reintroduced about 18,000 acres of floodplain forests, creating habitat for native species while delivering natural flood protection and water conservation. The organization’s work centers on restoring river corridors to bolster biodiversity and climate resilience, with projects positioned as central to California's approach to climate adaptation. It maintains what it calls the largest on-the-ground restoration footprint among both nonprofit and for-profit entities in the western United States, and it collaborates with agricultural, governmental, and community stakeholders to implement nature-based solutions. A notable recent development was the 2024 launch of a Sacramento basin companion to the Dos Rios Ranch project, designed to restore and reconnect 1,600 acres of natural floodplains at the confluence of the Feather River, Sacramento River, and Butte Creek, with support from Apple and public agencies. The nonprofit alongside government agencies, universities, and conservation groups works to advance restoration, wildlife habitat, and water-management solutions across California.
