The Firm Robert Koch Designs is a custom residential architecture firm located in Decatur Georgia. At the firm, the focus of every design is the client, and that makes every design unique, custom, and personal. Every client is different, so the first part of the design process is getting to know them. Early discussions shape the core client needs that a project must meet in order for a project to be truly successful. A home is fundamentally a space that has been shaped and molded, painted and decorated, and filled with all of the details, furniture, pictures, and personal touches that are unique to each client, and makes them feel comfortable. While it is important for our designs to explore the architectural details inherent in each particular style, it is more important to use those details and materials in a way that creates comfortable spaces and forms that evoke feelings of “home”. Our plans utilize design fundamentals, such as sinks centered on islands and aligned windows, to create spaces and forms that feel balanced and ordered. Carefully designed elevations use architectural elements, like perfectly sized brackets for a craftsman home or large overhangs on a modern home, which add to the level of quality in our designs. At Robert Koch Designs, our goal is to create high-quality spaces and forms that feel right. Every design involves shaping and molding an existing site, building, space, or all of these, in a way that explores the three-dimensional possibilities of new spaces. The wholistic design approach involves an examination of the relationships between light and shade, inside and outside, public and private, modern and traditional, all to create spaces that feel special and personal to each client.
