The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation, based in New York City, builds on the artist's belief that creative practice can catalyze social change and thrives at the intersection of art and life. It fosters in-depth research and partnerships for staff, curators, critics, scholars, and students to interpret the artist's life and work more broadly. Its philanthropic activities, guided in part by a newly constituted Artists Council, primarily support small to midsize arts and socially engaged organizations that pursue equity, while sustaining artists through residencies, commissions, and emergency medical grants.

The foundation also supports exhibitions, publications, and special projects worldwide that reflect Rauschenberg's joyful, responsive, and irreverent approach to making art while promoting empathetic living. In 2024, the organization appointed a new executive director, signaling ongoing leadership development within its philanthropic ecosystem and its commitment to collaborative exhibitions and partnerships aligned with its mission.
