Rocky Mountain Youth Corps operates in the environmental services space by offering residential conservation programs that help young adults build community ties, improve academic outcomes, acquire job skills, and pursue a healthy, productive adulthood. Each year the organization serves roughly 100 to 150 young people aged 16 to 30 through five crews: Regional Conservation Corps for high school students; college-age Trail Crews and Saw Crews; Historic Preservation Corps; and the Veterans Fire Corps. Projects span trails, bridges, fences, watershed restoration, campgrounds and parks, beetle-kill mitigation, and hazardous-fuels reduction, while the program combines these field activities with education in career development, leadership, environmental literacy, and civic responsibility, facilitated by a residential format that supports deeper learning. Participants are paid living stipends and many can receive AmeriCorps education awards.
