The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) of Akron has been serving the Akron community for over 30 years since opening its doors in January of 1985. Our mission is to provide a temporary house for those that have loved ones at Akron Children's Hospital. RMH of Akron provided lodging for 12,872 individuals in 2014. We had to tell families we did not have a place for them to stay over 5,700 times in 2014. The House is currently planning an expansion project that will add an additional 40 guest rooms. Utility Relocation will begin in the Fall of 2015 with the expected completion of the entire renovation and expansion in the fall of 2017. Families staying at RMH of Akron come from around the world; however the majority of our guests come from Richland, Stark, Tuscarawas, Mahoning, Trumball, Wayne, Ashland, Columbiana, Coshocton and Holmes counties in Ohio. At RMH of Akron, all the comforts of home are provided, including a private room and bathroom for each family that is stocked with toiletries and fresh sheets and towels. The families share many comfortable common areas including a dining room, large kitchen, basement rec room, sitting areas, a private outdoor space and full service no charge laundry facilities. A hot meal is served every evening and there is 24-hour access to the kitchen and fully stocked pantry. RMH of Akron would not be able to provide its services without its dedicated and talented volunteers. In 2014, 135 volunteers provided 10,749 volunteer hours. The Ronald McDonald House of Akron allows parents to be close by their sick child, surrounded by a warm, peaceful and comforting atmosphere that strengthens them during trying times.
