The Royal College of Anaesthetists is the professional body for anaesthesia, critical care, and pain medicine across the UK, based in London, England. It aims to safeguard patient care by maintaining and advancing standards in training and clinical practice. The College supports a large membership of about 17,500 fellows and members, plus around 3,500 from its Faculties of Intensive Care Medicine and Pain Medicine. Its activities include championing the work of anaesthetists, recruiting and administering examinations to high standards, supporting members throughout their careers, and funding research to drive progress in the field. It collaborates with medical and healthcare organizations in the UK and worldwide, facilitates knowledge sharing, and engages with government and other stakeholders to influence the healthcare agenda. In March 2026, the Recruitment Committee partnered with the Widening Participation Medics Network to launch GasReach, a mentorship scheme.
