Sacramento County has been named amongst the top 10 “Best Areas to Live, Work, and Play” by Kiplinger, who determined the top ten based on economy, cost of living, and availability of recreational activities. The County has also won numerous awards including: Top U.S. Digital County (Rank 4) Gold Award of Excellence - Solid Waste Association of North America Aviation Project of the Year Award Clean Air Award Green Leadership Award, “Project of the Year” to Sacramento International Airport’s Terminal B The County encompasses approximately 994 square miles in the middle of the 400-mile long Central Valley, which is California's prime agricultural region. The state Capitol is located within the County. The County is west of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and east of San Francisco Bay. The County has seven incorporated cities: Sacramento (County Seat), Elk Grove, Citrus Heights, Rancho Cordova, Folsom, Galt, and Isleton. The County is governed by a five-member Board of Supervisors. Each is elected from one of the five supervisorial districts of the County for a four year term. Other elected officials include the Assessor, District Attorney and Sheriff. The County Executive runs the day to day operations of the County. The County's budget is $3.5 billion.
