As one of the largest homeless service providers in Sacramento we welcome nearly 1,000 adults and children experiencing homelessness and extreme poverty every day. Loaves & Fishes is a place of radical love and for nearly 40 years has modeled its services after the "Houses of Hospitality" created by anarchist and leader of the Catholic Worker Movement, Dorothy Day. For Founders, Chris & Dan Delany, what started in 1983, as a simple vision of providing a midday meal out of the unmet need of food security, grew into a 4.5 acre campus. In addition to our dining room services, we provide breakfasts, showers, laundry, a school for children impacted by homelessness, mental health counseling, professional legal advice, on-site resources from our community partners, a daily respite for families, an overnight shelter for women, and much more. We are governed by a board of directors selected from community members who have demonstrated compassion towards the needs of those who are homeless and living in poverty. Loaves & Fishes recognizes that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. We do not accept government funds and instead, our powered by the grassroots efforts of the Sacramento community.
