Safe Place for Youth is a Venice-based organization in the field of individual and family services that supports homeless youth. Founded in 2011 by volunteers and Executive Director Alison Hurst, the group began by providing hot meals, clothing, and socks from its members’ cars and has since expanded its programs and partnerships, growing from a volunteer-led model to one with professional staff. The organization operates from a dedicated building in Venice and focuses on empowering young people experiencing homelessness to thrive by offering community-driven solutions that address racial and social inequity. Serving the local youth community, SPY works to address pressing needs related to homelessness while participating in broader discussions and coalitions aimed at policy change in Los Angeles.
