SANDAG is the Metropolitan Planning Organization and Regional Transportation Planning Agency for the San Diego region, responsible for developing long-term plans for how people and goods move. The agency also builds projects, preserves the environment, provides local resources, and administers the TransNet program, guided by data and public input. Its Board of Directors is composed of elected representatives from local city councils and the County Board of Supervisors, with advisory members from local transit districts, the military, tribal governments, Mexico, and partner agencies. SANDAG collaborates with local governments, community partners, neighboring regions, and state and federal agencies to deliver durable solutions to regional challenges. Based in San Diego, California, the organization operates in multiple roles, including housing needs forum, ARJIS administrator and criminal justice clearinghouse, and census agency. In December 2025, SANDAG launched the RideFACTNOW service to improve specialized mobility.
