The San Isabel Land Protection Trust is a non-profit, non-political environmental organization focused on preserving land in south-central Colorado. Since 1995, it has partnered with landowners in Fremont, Pueblo, Huerfano, and Custer Counties to protect ranch, farm, and forest lands, wildlife habitat, historic resources, and scenic views through easements and related protections. The trust oversees a service area of about 2.0 million acres in the Wet Mountain Valley region, recognizing ongoing threats such as aging ownership, agricultural abandonment, population growth, and competing water and resource interests. Its work aims to maintain the rural community’s quality of life and natural and historical heritage while supporting responsible development.

Based in Westcliffe, Colorado, the organization has a small staff and operates within the environmental services sector, focusing on land protection and open-space preservation. Through its conservation efforts, it has protected over 38,000 acres across 122 easements on productive working lands, scenic open spaces, and important wildlife habitat. The trust emphasizes a neutral, community-focused approach to sustaining rural landscapes and their resources for current and future generations.
