Founded in 1986 as Sanus Systems, the company made a name for itself by making the first audiophile-grade speaker stands for AV enthusiasts. Over the next 15 years, Sanus Systems grew into a leader in AV furniture and speaker stands for the residential market. In 2002, Sanus Systems introduced the first universal wall mount for flat-panel televisions, ushering in an era of significant growth and business expansion in the consumer electronics market.

Sanus Systems merged with the commercially successful Chief Manufacturing in 2004, and the two brands operate under what is now Milestone AV Technologies along with Da-Lite Screen Company, owner of Da-Lite, Projecta and Procolor brands of projector screens.
