SBP is a national nonprofit organization based at 2645 Toulouse Street in New Orleans, Louisiana 70119, operating in the non-profit sector and focused on shortening the time between disaster and recovery. The organization rebuilds homes, enhances community preparedness and resilience, and works to improve recovery systems to better serve Americans, taking a holistic approach to disaster readiness before and after events. It was founded in March 2006 by Liz McCartney and Zack Rosenburg in the St. Bernard Parish after Hurricane Katrina. SBP has a workforce of 501-1000 employees and mobilizes trained AmeriCorps members along with volunteers; overall, about 150,000 volunteers have contributed to its work across 14 communities in the United States and the Bahamas. Since its founding, SBP has rebuilt homes for more than 6,300 families, using approaches such as the Toyota Production System to guide its operations.
