The School of American Ballet is a professional ballet training institution founded in 1934 by George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein as the essential first step toward building an American classical ballet company. Located at Lincoln Center in New York City, it serves as the official academy of the New York City Ballet. It is widely regarded as the premier ballet academy in the United States, and its alumni go on to join the New York City Ballet and other leading companies. In September 2024, Jenifer Ringer, a former New York City Ballet dancer, was appointed Director of Intermediate/Advanced Divisions and Artistic Programming.
