SciLifeLab is Sweden's national center for molecular biosciences, focusing on health and environmental research. It blends advanced technical capabilities with knowledge of translational medicine and molecular bioscience to support translational science. Established in 2010 and designated a national center by the government in 2013, the organization operates a network of sites across Stockholm and Uppsala, with additional locations in Lund, Gothenburg, Linköping, and Umeå added in 2021. The institution is based in Solna in the Stockholm region and forms part of the country's biotechnology research landscape. Its collaborations span universities, hospitals and industry partners, including efforts to integrate whole genome sequencing into diagnostic evaluations for rare diseases with Karolinska Hospital and Karolinska Institutet. In 2026, SciLifeLab Group announced work to develop theory, algorithms and methods to train AI models under limited, imprecise and heterogeneous data.
