Second City Canine Rescue is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit largely volunteer-run that rescues homeless dogs and seeks permanent, loving homes for them. The organization relies primarily on foster homes and conducts temperament testing on each adult dog before adoption, with a planned Adoption Center in Palatine to house dogs when a foster is not available. Based in the Chicago area, SCCR serves Chicagoland and has extended its reach to neighboring states including Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, Kentucky, and Alabama, and it does not discriminate by breed, age, size, or color. Its euthanasia policy reserves the practice for extreme cases of aggression or illness. In 2023, SCCR partnered with PetSmart to host an in-person adoption event, reflecting ongoing community engagement.
