Self-Help International is a nonprofit organization founded in 1959 and based in Waverly, Iowa. It works at the grassroots level to improve quality of life and increase income for rural people by promoting sustainable agricultural practices that support self-reliance. In Ghana and Nicaragua, SHI introduces high-protein Quality Protein Maize and post-harvest technologies, and it conducts micro-credit activities that provide women with training and revolving loan funds. The organization serves smallholder farmers and their communities, addressing nutrition and income challenges through crop improvements and storage enhancements. A recent development is a partnership with Together Women Rise to expand the Growing Healthy Food, Growing Healthy Children program to a new community.
