SWAN is a non-partisan, non-profit organization that works to improve the welfare of current U.S. servicewomen and to assist all women veterans. Women In Combat SWAN believes that the most effective military is one where women are integrated into all sectors. SWAN advocates for one single physical fitness standard for men and women, and for occupational standards that are task-oriented and gender-neutral. Additionally, SWAN believes that women should be eligible for Selective Service. Military Sexual Violence SWAN believes that our troops deserve to serve in a military without fear of rape, sexual harassment or sexual assault, and without fear of retaliation for reporting. SWAN advocates for better victim protections, professionalized and impartial prosecution of the accused, and service members’ access to civil courts. VA Benefits and Health Care The VA was established to provide health care and disability benefits to help meet that obligation and SWAN believes that in order to successfully achieve its mission, the VA must ensure that women receive the full spectrum of quality health care and maintain a disability and pension system that is fair to serve the needs of veterans. Reproductive Health Care SWAN believes that service women deserve nothing less than the best health care available. The number of women serving continues to grow, and with the recent lifting of the Combat Exclusion Policy, the Pentagon can no longer risk women’s access to the full spectrum of health care. Ensuring the health needs of the entire force is critical to the military’s ability to accomplish its mission. LGBT Equality SWAN believes that a diverse military is a strong military and that every citizen should have the opportunity to serve without discrimination or abuse. SWAN advocates for reforming DOD policies and programs to provide full partner and spousal benefits to same-sex military and veteran families, and allowing open service for transgender individuals.
