South Georgia Medical Center (SGMC Health) operates as a regional health system serving South Georgia and parts of North Florida. The organization runs four hospitals across Lowndes, Berrien, and Lanier counties and extends care through ambulance services, dozens of medical offices, and facilities such as a cancer center, hospice, retirement center, skilled nursing facility, imaging centers, and urgent care. Its service lines include heart and vascular care, stroke, trauma, cancer, orthopedics, surgery, and women’s and infants’ services. Notably, in 2022 SGMC Health launched an Internal Medicine Residency Program in partnership with Mercer University School of Medicine, signaling a move toward an academic teaching hospital model. This initiative aims to strengthen the physician pipeline and improve access to care across South Georgia.
