The Shanghai Gold Exchange (SGE) is a member-based, self-regulatory financial services entity established by the People’s Bank of China with the approval of the State Council and registered with the State Administration for Industry and Commerce. It began operation on October 30, 2002 and is supervised by the PBC under applicable law. The organization is headquartered at No.99 Middle Henan Road, Shanghai, China, and employs 11-50 people. SGE organizes the trading of gold, silver, platinum and other precious metals and provides services to members and investors to support market development, guided by principles of integrity, equitableness, justice and transparency. In 2025 and 2026, the exchange expanded its international footprint by opening an offshore warehouse and expanding offices in Hong Kong, and by signing cooperation agreements with Hong Kong authorities and other entities to advance yuan-denominated contracts and cross-market connectivity.
