Shewmaker & Lewis is an Atlanta-based law firm specializing in military and federal government representation in domestic and criminal matters.  Shewmaker & Lewis represents clients in all Atlanta metro counties, the U.S. Federal Northern and Middle Districts of Georgia, and the United States Military Courts at Fort Benning, Fort Gordon, Georgia. 

The founding partners and of counsel attorneys at Shewmaker & Shewmaker all have a rich history of service in the United States Armed Forces, with over seventy years of combined military service.

Domestic relations matters involving parties that currently serve in the armed forces, federal government, or retirees often involve unique aspects not present in typical domestic matters, such as division of unique retirement plans (e.g. military pensions).  These cases may also involve ancillary matters such as military interim support matters, calculation of military gross salaries, or Tricare medical benefits.  

Shewmaker & Shewmaker represents clients in criminal matters in state, federal and military courts.  Criminal defense matters in the state and federal courts often involve additional aspects when defendants serve in the active military, the reserves or the federal government.  Attorneys representing such clients must be attentive to additional aspects of conventional criminal defense that may arise with the, such as administrative separation and the effect of 18 U.S.C. 922(g).

Shewmaker & Shewmaker also assists other attorneys with military aspects of domestic, criminal and other civil matters, including military research, appellate practice and expert testimony.
