The Sierra Nevada Conservancy is a California state agency within the Resources Agency, created in 2004 through bipartisan legislation and signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger. Headquartered in Carmichael, in California's Sierra Nevada region, it was established to address the intertwined environmental, economic, and social needs of the region through strategic direction. Its work is carried out through a variety of activities in collaboration with partners, guided by a statute that establishes seven program goals and a Strategic Plan that outlines how to develop strategies, approaches, and projects to achieve them. The Conservancy serves the Sierra Nevada region by coordinating efforts among communities, government entities, and other stakeholders to address regional challenges. As a relatively small governmental entity, it operates within the state framework to advance environmental stewardship alongside economic and community resilience.
